  Faith in Christ Ministries
Internship Program

God’s Hands and Heart

Mission Statement:  In keeping with the goal of our church, the FICM internship program aims to assist our interns to do the will of God in the community by reaching out to those in need by providing for their immediate needs with the intention of meeting their spiritual needs through sharing the gospel and making disciples.

Vision/Purpose:  The purpose of the program is to provide real world experience to undergraduate college sophomores, juniors and seniors in the areas of urban ministry and program administration.  FICM hopes to garner a deeper sense of godliness and compassion for urban youth in conjunction with knowledge of the inner workings of a youth outreach organization in our interns.

Programs:   This program is currently a non-paid internship.   Potential students have the option of signing up for four different programs, two in the summer, and two during the academic year. Each program is set at 25 clock hours per week.  The short summer program is 6 weeks and 150 clock hours.  The longer summer program is 12 weeks and 300 clock hours.  The semester long program is 15 weeks and 375 hours and the year long is 30 weeks and 750 hours.  The hours are flexible and can be tailored to the students’ needs.  Days are also flexible as the ministry is open from Tuesday-Sunday week.   Each student will be required to record his/ her hours on sheets distributed by the FICM administrator for his/her own personal records; FICM will have a duplicate of the hours for their own records.  Students may request days off at least two weeks in advance, but must realize that they are still required to fulfill the 25 hours for that week.  Even in cases of emergency, students must do their utmost to maintain their 25 hour weekly quota.

Requirements:  Students must fill out an application and submit three letters of recommendation, one of which should be from the students’ pastor.  They are also required to write a 300 word essay on how this internship will help them and how it applies to their major.  Students should have skill in operating Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Publisher.  While being bilingual is not mandatory, students with this characteristic will be looked on most favorably.  All majors are welcome.

Duties:  Students will be expected to assist in any or all of the following tasks: administrative duties, evangelism outreach and discipleship, day camps, supervision for camping rips/sports camps/ the Continental Kids Camp Program, and gardening projects.  An essential portion of the program is instilling godliness in the youth served.  Interns must therefore not merely demonstrate outstanding moral character, but be strong Christians.  Interns may be asked to chaperone day, evening, or weekend events.  Their presence may also be requested at the program coordinator journeys to conferences and requires a companion.  In such cases, students should bring spending money for meals, and note taking utensils.

Administrative duties include typing, answering the phones and taking messages, finding out information on programs in which FICM is interested in joining, writing grant letters, and coming up with ideas and bringing them into fruition.  Students are encouraged to spend a few Sundays at FICM church services to help connect with the kids that attend the after school program that also attend the church services.  Students should not feel pressured to join the church while fulfilling their internship, but can if they so desire.  FICM realizes that the young should associate with other youths and are therefore encourages interns to network with other young people who volunteer at FICM, like Campus Crusade, or Athletes in Action.

Room and Board:  There is limited room and board available at the ministry families’ dwelling and will be given out on a first come first serve basis.  Students who do not reside with the ministry family must make their own living arrangements.
