NEW SONG REALLY SINGS

A group of 10 U.C. Irvine college students from New Song Church came up to work with us for a week, and very positively impacted our community.  They assisted by serving the homeless, tutoring our kids, taking surveys in the community, and meeting with many of our residents.  But, perhaps the greatest benefit we derived from their visit was the wonderful work they performed in our computer lab.  We want to extend a great big special thanks to Eddy Kim, and Richie LeClair for their help in the lab.

The other members of the group included: Andrea Wong, Janet Lee, Chris Lee, Somang Kim, Stacy Fong, Peter Ahn, Jonathan Lai, and Phillip Youn....God Bless You All!!

We recently received the following letter back from the group.

Hi Ms. Gwynn and Pastor Joe!

I just wanted to thank you both so much for letting our team stay with you for a week. You have no idea how much you have impacted my life by allowing me to interact with the people in the community and serving you guys. Remember how I said that I was afraid of coming to LA? Well, during that week, my whole perspective has changed. I was really scared of going to LA. It was, in fact my very last place I would have ever wanted to do a missions trip at. I had all these preconceived notions and misconceptions of who the people are and how they would treat us. I would think that they were dangerous people and very rude and poor and unfriendly. But i was proven so wrong. God does funny things like that doesn't he? But i am so thankful that I experienced life in LA. The people are open and friendly and welcoming. We met this one lady, Maria, on our community survey walk and she was just so welcoming to us. She was the one that gave us the enormous amount of lemons (which by the way, is left by your kitchen) and welcomed us back anytime. Of course there are exceptions, there are people that are not as nice or what not. But the majority just tries to have the best life possible in the area they live in. And yes, it is dangerous and not at all as safe as it is in Irvine or my home town. But those are the things that you are there for and what we pray for. The things you guys do is amazing and I am so glad I got to get a glimpse of what you do. I definately want to go back and visit and volunteer. I would very much like to see the kids again at SAY Yes!

Anyways, I just wanted to thank you both for this experience. I hope to see you again soon.

In Christ,
Janet Lee
