Mission
Statement: In keeping
with the goal of our church, the FICM community service options
aim to assist our volunteers to do the will of God in the
community by reaching out to those in need by providing for
their immediate needs with the intention of meeting their
spiritual needs through sharing the gospel and making disciples.
Vision/Purpose: The purpose of the program is to provide first hand experience to high
school and college students and adults in the areas of urban
ministry and program administration. FICM aims to provide an
environment in which volunteers can achieve a deeper sense of
understanding and compassion for urban youth in conjunction with
knowledge of the inner workings of a youth outreach
organization. We also hope to encourage volunteers to reach out
to others in the community who are less fortunate, first with
physical aid and more importantly, with the love of Christ.
Requirements:
Volunteers must fill out an
application and submit three
letters of recommendation. They should have skill in operating
Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Publisher to assist in
the office. Bilingual volunteers are greatly appreciated.
Those interested in working in the kitchen or chaperoning events
must be at least 18.
Volunteers
interested ministry with the children must be strong Christians
and one of the required letters of recommendation must come from
their pastor.
Duties:
FICM has many avenues for volunteers to serve. They can work
with the youth, the administration, the Thanksgiving and or/
Christmas meals, or the Saturday morning breakfast for the
homeless. Volunteers may assist in our after school program for
kids from elementary thru high school that includes a
curriculum, projects and field trips. The may be asked to
chaperone at events, or supervise during free time or a specific
group during projects. Volunteers may assist the staff by
answering phones, updating the organizations records and writing
business and grant letters. On Saturday mornings, volunteers
can serve an early repast for our unsheltered residents, and the
same applies for those at our annual Thanksgiving and Christmas
feasts. We also supply baskets of food for families in need
during the holiday seasons |
